Not submitting work here anymore, just lurking

Hey all, 

As you might be able to tell I haven't been doing much around here lately. It doesn't mean I'm not creating work, but I've been busy Freelancing and using other platforms to show off my work. kelseysbass.tumblr.com and soon I will post work on Artstation when I have some time.

I go back and forth between wanting to close my account here or just let it hang on for a few more years. I'm not sure, I like the nostalgia of DA since I've been on here since 2005 or 2006? I'm not sure of the exact date! I miss posting work and coming home from school to see all the lovely comments and faves. DA also introduced me to a lot of great people and artists that I either keep in touch with today or have met in person.

Yes, my work is really old on here, but to see work being plucked from people's accounts without even being notified is awful. Yes DeviantArt is a free platform where you can post your work, but when they have the ability to sell your work to companies like Hot Topic what they heck can you do?

  1. How long have you been on DeviantArt? 10 years... holy cow!

  2. What does your username mean? Just a name I had for a long time, but now doesn't hold too much meaning

  3. Describe yourself in three words. Creative, Adventurous, and Brave

  4. Are you left or right handed? Left handed

  5. What was your first deviation?  Killa Hillz by Farlo oh my god... ;_; It was REALLY weird looking at my old work too.

  6. What is your favourite type of art to create?  I love drawing animals, and creating images that tell stories

  7. If you could instantly master a different art style, what would it be? Highly realistic final concept art paintings

  8. What was your first favourite?  Holly Dolly by SimarraSuicide I'm not sure if this is really my first favorite. I think that probably artists have deleted/moved their accounts

  9. What type of art do you tend to favourite the most? Fan art, art that looks like it took a lot of effort, art that makes me feel, and any that strike me

  10. Who is your all-time favourite deviant artist? Bobby Chiu imaginism.deviantart.com/ His art screams fun, and in the end helped me realize what the heck I was doing with my life. He made art very approachable in ways I never thought of before. 

  11. If you could meet anyone on DeviantArt in person, who would it be? It's funny, I've met a lot of amazing artists who I've followed for a long time. I'm almost running out! I guess Loish would be a cool person to meet.

  12. How has a fellow deviant impacted your life? Quite a few, I have had a lot of positive experiences on here.

  13. What are your preferred tools to create art? I work mostly digital, but paint and work in color pencil to take a break from the screen.

  14. What is the most inspirational place for you to create art? In my really cool studio!

  15. What is your favourite DeviantArt memory? The times when comments were a thing... I appreciate favorites just fine, but you lose out on some interaction.

Mild winter

It's been quite a mild winter here in Berlin. I think I've gone outside more during this time of year than in summer last year (could that be right?) It's great when the days start to get longer and the Spring feeling fills the air.

New Year new goals

2013 was the year I decided to become a full-time freelancer, it was also the year that I got a freelance permit in Berlin. All of this came with learning how the system works here in Germany. It was a lot to take in but I think I have found the rhythm. I also got to meet a lot of nice people this past year as well. 

I'm hoping that 2014 will further me along in my career and open new opportunities for me. Though I enjoy freelance I have a goal to work in a studio setting with other artists. Be it a company or an artist studio. If I am unable to do that I will be looking into taking some art classes. We will see. 

For now, I hope that my watchers and people who happen upon my page will have a prosperous 2014!

Back to the States for a month

I'm going to be visiting Ohio Nov. 4 through Dec. 4. I'm excited to see friends and family again. I'm excited to play with Gary and Peach, my family's doggies, and I hope to take some pics of them. Gosh I miss having a pet... I see all these folks in Berlin walking their dogs and I am jeaaaalouus. I guess my boyfriend and I will think about having a pet down the line.

I also look forward to spending Thanksgiving with my folks.
